Born in Nigeria, Taiwo Awaiye has over twenty years of experience as a dancer, choreographer, singer and actor. Pedagogy and transmission are inseparable from his practice as an interpreter. He graduated in contemporary dance.

 

In 2003, he created the Ejiarts Company in Nigeria, then in France upon his arrival in La Rochelle in 2004. Growing up in a country rich with more than 250 ethnic groups helps open his eyes to the grandeur and vibrancy of a mixed culture, as it allows him to share stories in body, words, and emotions. He has seen different forms of art through which today he expresses himself in a hybrid way, he navigates between several cultures and artistic influences that he explores, again and again.

 

In Nigeria as well as in Europe He worked with several choreographers like Heddy Maleem who discovered him during a festival called "Dance meet dance" one of the meetings that traced his path in contemporary choreography, he worked in France and in Mali on the Rite of Spring, a show that toured Europe and arround  the world. Collaboration with producer Victor Bouch, writer Michel Ocelot and choreographer Wayne Mac Gregor on the musical Kirikou et Karaba, one of his first acts on stage in the French language, Learning this language was fun and interesting especially when the language follows rules very different from his (English). It made him see the incredible power of languages ​​that unite us as artists. Taiwo was able to make enriching encounters with Peter Badejo, Regine Chopinot, James Carles Irina Brook on projects that correspond to his research.

In 2019, he embarked on the creation of his own projects as a solo artist. His first choreographic creation entitled, Sundar Appornata - Beautiful Imperfection takes into account his origins, his artistic journey and the sacred technique of Indian culture and dance.  Meeting with 96 children to creat a show called dreams of peace organized by A.I.D.E at the exhibition center, he was able to measure the effectiveness of his supervision in transmitting his passion. Dancer and Choreographer for the show Américan Dream, in collaboration with 3 teachers and artists of music and dance from the Conservatoire de l'Agglomeration Rochelaise, a show that recalls his trip around the world as an artist, and the desire to share his dream through the testimony of the other. A collaboration with artists and teachers, who make today's contemporary art worth exploring. Creation 2021 YORUBA THE DREAM, this creation takes its strength from the determination of African captives who have transcended suffering to leave us a common heritage. As an African, he felt the need to find his roots after so many years in France
